7/13/2023 0 Comments Unturned steam downloadThere are some AV's that have a nice feature that show you httprequests, sockets or access to sensible files, but that's not really helpful to a regular consumer and they're just going to ignore it. Otherwise your AV is actually quite useless in protecting you from malicious steam developers. It does pick up viruses that don't origin from the developer because they usually append themselves to files, that way you could be safe from any viruses affecting the PC that uploaded the game. Why? Because someone who manages to code a game has enough programming knowledge to easily obfuscate any relevant code inside of their game and after compiling, your AV will not be able to pick it up. However, your approach of listening to common AV or malwarebytes is completely unecessary. Back in the day, games had to go through an audit in order to be put onto steam but I don't know whenever that applies to post-greenlight due to Valve wanting to automate their store as much as they can on the backend.Ī healthy safety concern is nice and I personally like to reverse engineer dodgy looking games if I want to play them, in order to be sure. I think there were 1-2 cases which reportedly had malicious intent and another handful of proof of concepts uploaded that were supposed to shine a light on this matter. You're safe to assume that 99.99999% of all steam games are safe, because if you've got your game on Steam you generally want to make a profit - which outweighs any need for malicious intentions.
